Backyard Adventures

This has been the summer of the great divide. Dad and the boys go fun places and Mom and the girls stay home because frankly, leaving the house with Sydney isn't anybody's idea of a party. Hub, being the nice guy he is, felt badly about always leaving Noelle home. So last weekend he pitched the tent up in the backyard so she could have a pretend campout.

Noelle and Syd frolicking on everybody's sleeping bags

Everyone is so excited to be sleeping on the ground even though their cozy, comfy beds are just yards away in the house. Sneaky Hub was smart enough to haul a mattress outside to sleep on.

I had to reluctantly skip out on the backyard sleepover so I could hear Syd if she woke up in the night. Strangely, Hub didn't feel bad about not inviting Syd to his tent party.

Something about sleeping closely together and being in a tent makes our kids incredibly hyper. By the time everyone was actually contained in their sleeping bags and not giggling, Noelle was sufficiently tired enough to be freaked out that she wasn't in her own bed. At approximately 9:15 pm she called it quits and cried to go inside the house.
So once again.....Dad and the boys had a fun time sleeping in the tent while mom and the girls had to sleep in their own beds. Sometimes a great divide is what is best for everyone!

good times! Addie wanted to sleep on the tramp last summer. Landan and I slept out there with her until she was zonked and then we carried her in to her bed so we didn't have to sleep outside. We are horrible. But at least we slept well.

Now that is my favorite kind of campout! Don't have to worry about the kids' bathroom needs, bug bites, or bears.
Leon should be up for a real challenge and take Syd out next time.

My kids like the backyard campouts better than the real ones! For reasons listed by cold cocoa.

Your kids are growing up so fast! Didn’t you just have that baby like yesterday? They are all darling.

Smart girl...I'd always pick INdoors vs a camping outing! Glad Leon can keep those boys entertained...he and James are from the same mold!

How old is Noelle? We love backyard campouts--they're free and if someone pukes, it isn't a huge deal. Yes, we don't get colds in this house, we puke.

wow. all the comments sound like they are from women who can't handle a campout enough to find its real enjoyment. sleep outside? puke? bugs? bathrooms? soft beds? it is like you are living in plush, American, 21st century times.

What cute pictures! I love Noelle in her little jammies and Sydney crawling at the camera. :) I think it's great that Dads can take the older kids and Moms can stay where it's comfortable. It's good for us and forces bonding time with the Dads! The best part is no one came home smelling like smoke.

BD and I were talking about how Sydney is the CUTEST little baby!
I love the idea of a Daddy/daughter campout in the backyard.

So, like Mother like daughter. All show no go! Whatever, I'll give ya this one since camping is the last resort for me...and by resort I mean that's the only place I lay my head down if not in my own bed.
