Shower Power

The above is a picture of me in my outside shower. What? You don't have one? And why is there foliage in my picture when we've received about 14 tons of snow this winter? I live in a magical place, my friend. And it's a place where I have very skinny arms apparently.
But back to reality. The other day Mitch begged me not to take a shower because I'm 'in there too long." To which I responded, "WHAT THE?! HAVE YOU MET YOUR FATHER?" (Which is very true. I swear Hub takes a daily 40-minute shower. The difference being Mitch is not yet awake and therefore cannot hold dad accountable) I also told Mitch that in order for me to be the best mom ever, which I am, I need my shower time and to not begrudge me my few minutes alone, dangit!
Don't most of your best ideas come in the shower? Mine do. I can whip out a super family night lesson in the shower. Or a great career idea. And if I had a computer in the shower I would be an awesome blogger. Let's not even get into the imaginary confrontations I have with people who never even knew they wronged me....
But these are very fleeting moments because even the shower cannot drown out the noise of a door slamming and a kid kicking at the bathroom door and reality comes rushing back. But I tell you--for those short minutes (no matter what Mitch would have you believe), I have solved many a problem and come up with many a great lesson. Are you a shower meditator like me?

ps Do you like my new profile picture? It's not too much, is it? I just needed to kick the winter blahs and I think I did in one quick download!

I am one too. There are two moments in the day where it's a true challenge and I'm wondering how can I leave this safe, peaceful, still haven? The first moment is in the bed, as Anika is making me get out of it so we can leave for school in 20 minutes. The second is in the shower. I wish we could tape our fast moving thoughts that take place there, undisturbed and stimulated by the soft pulse of electric water.

you have another little one coming soon. You better really enjoy those showers in the next few weeks.

Not to mention the great acoustics for singing. Yes, I've also had many great debates in the shower. Something about that soft pulse of water makes one feel so confident.
That's why it takes me so long--I'm not shaving!

Oh, yeah ! That profile pic is a winner! And so like you it is hardly discernable from your old profile pic. I like the pic of you in your shower with the foliage and the too-skinny arms much better, though. You rock!

the profile pic is superb! Apparently both of our profile pics are going to have to kick the nicotine habit though (although I have to argue that Audrey Hepburn looks good even with her cigarette)

The shower... Leon and Trevor are probably related, because 40 minute showers are becoming the norm around here as well. Meditate in there? I did once upon a time, now... not so much - I usually have about 3 minutes before I have to leave the house(otherwise why would I shower at all?)

I had noticed your new pic. and thought...oh no, I hope Megan doesn't really feel like Popeye!
Glad the shower does it for you! There are days nothing feels better. What I don't like is when James asks "how was your shower?" when I'm still dripping wet! I don't want to tax my brain and think that hard about how really great or soothing it was, just let me be. I'm NOT totally happy 'til the makeup is on and the hair is styled : ) Then fire away with those questions!

I believe all the problems of the world could be solved if everyone in the world showered long and then acted upon their shower-induced thoughts. That is why I shower long -- to do my part for world peace.

Although the world will suffer greatly too when shower water temperatures never makes it past luke-warm. I hate those rare days.

You crack me up! YES I love your popeye profile picture! SO HOT!

As for being a mediator in the shower I wouldn't say so.

My best ideas come while I am driving in my car. I can do anything while driving in my car... Lesson Plans, Business Ideas, I used to make up dance routines (which I would get a lot of wierd looks while doing) and so on...

I was just thinking as I read that I never think in the shower, I just block everything out including the kids pounding at the door...later, upon my continued reading of the blog I realized that the pounding is universal...who knew?

Oh, and I don't have those imaginary conversations. Reg told me to only practice tact, as I am already fabulous at confrontation. But since not interested in tact I just avoid the pretend conversations, and wait and surprise myself with what really comes out as the time arises. I think this is why Reg married me. He likes to be surprised all the time too! He is so lucky!

I have great intentions of thinking in the shower but I find I don't want to think -- I just want to enjoy being warm and NOT thinking. So you're a shriveled Popeye now? Have you been eating spinach?

What is it with men and their long showers and like you said its when the kids are asleep so therefore they never get disturbed. Oh and by the way we did have an outside shower in Hawaii. Maybe we would have used it (just for hygeine purposes of course) if we weren't with the inlaws :)

this blog sounds quite a bit like an email your mother wrote a week or so ago. . .

i myself have turned into a bather. i don't have to worry about which knob to turn to stop the alternately burning/freezing water from tormenting me. i can just sit back and relax.

eventually, i converse with myself and solve a lot of the problems weighing on my mind, but not until after several minutes of profound nothingness.

Sweet post. :) I was thinking about my shower time exactly 2 days ago! I always have my best ideas in the shower. I've thought about having a plastic coated piece of paper and a marker in there so that I can write them all down before they disappear from my mind as I dry off. Showertime is my sanctuary. Nothing like steam and running water to make the screams from the other room fade into the smell of fruity shower-gel goodness.
