Home Alone....kinda

You know me, never one to say a negative word---so when Hub went out of town last week I only focused on the positives. Didn't once think how I was going to do all the kiddos at church or how I would have to move bedtime up three hours for sanity's sake....Instead, I sent him on his way with a wifely smile and a suitcase full of trail mix and jerky (no, he wasn't going on a campout. He was going to Washington DC. I don't think there is a destination where Hub wouldn't think trail mix and jerky is appropriate fare.)

Many of you are old pros at being deserted by your man. I am not. So I took solace in a few little things. Like not having to cook a dinner with red meat for a whole week. On the same vein, not having to make sure there are leftovers worthy of co-worker envy for Hub's lunch the next day.

I didn't feel any guilt about the kids watching TV on a school night if it meant they were going to get ready for bed quicker. (The kids were actually better behaved than usual since their spidey sense knew how fragile I can be with no other adult relief in sight) We played more and cleaned less since I figured we'd just save all our energy for one good cleanup right before Hub came home.

I had a good friend come visit every night to reward me for a completed day. Her name was Ms. Dryer's Girl Scouts Thin Mint ice cream. She can be a really good friend. I highly recommend you invite her into your homes.

Anyhoo, we survived. Hub came home and from the pictures he took and stories he told I am not really sure what actual 'work' was done, but hey, you know me--not one to say a negative word....

Hub hanging out at the White House. Just waiting for the snipers to get him.

I too am NO good at the no hubby thing! And your "friend" sounds AMAZING, where did you find her??? I STILL haven't found a place up here that sells G.S cookies! SO VERY SAD!!! :(

Well I am glad you all survived, good job!

I have that same friend! Though sometimes she disappoints me with her lack of big chunks and all the extra air infused in her whipped goodness.

I'm glad your hub got a break from his demanding wife and kids.

I too have been enjoying my time with the same friend pretty much every night. I have the same complaint as cold cocoa.

You make it sound like Leon is the rule enforcer. Now I know that can't be true.

Now that we are unemployed I can tell you I think it is easier to have a missing husband than one that is home too much. I hope Landan doesn't read this.

You would think by now I would be okay at not having the husband around, but I'm so not. I hate every minute of when he's gone. It never gets any easier. Next time your hubby is gone give me a call. Chances are mine is gone too. We can take the kids to the park or something.

Megan - Let me first chew you out...why didn't YOU go!? And I hear you on the beef jerky/trail mix...so funny! Reg doesn't go out of town QUITE as much as he used to...I think that is attributed to the fact that when he goes out of town we skip school and do all the fun stuff we can think of to make up for him have SUCH a blast... working! Glad you survived!

Oh...and try the Samoa ice cream too. We had that at my mom's house in NYC. So yummy!

Good thing for spidey sense and GS cookie ice cream!

turns out this year I will be the one leaving FAR more often than the spouse... let's see how much he likes it.

(and yes, I fear that he will fully enjoy it and I will come back to a neat and tidy house with children who are well fed... wait, did I say "fear"? I'm crazy.)

Congrats on making it through the week -- especially Sunday and I'm glad you had a good friend to hang out with (and eat? that's weird) during the evenings. Sorry I fell through on visiting. That was a bummer.
