What's one less hour of sleep?

Baby Sydney is 11 days old. But I don't really think of it that way. I think of it as it's been 11 days since I had any good amount of sleep. Add the time change and a toddler sneaking into my bed before she should be awake and you've got me borderline mentally insane. Good thing I have some great coping mechanisms involving lots of TV for kids and sugar products for me.

In other family news.......Ike participated in his first Pinewood Derby. Our designer extraordinaire let us down and he wanted no part of this rite of passage. He reluctantly designed a simple BYU car. Fortunately his two younger brothers had enough excitement for the whole pack and Ethan could hardly sleep the night before (he kept on calling it the Pioneer Derby, but we knew what he meant).
Here is Ike holding his awesome car like it might be contagious with the Bubonic Plague. His enthusiasm is palpable!

Then there is the potty training. It is amazing how changing a newborn's bottom can make your two-year-old's bottom seem huge. Hub took it upon himself to start potty training this weekend. Wahoo. This means that once he goes back to work on Monday Noelle's successes and failures rest entirely on me. Did I mention how this was a unilateral decision? Anyway, Noelle was as excited about this decision as much as I was as you can tell from the first photo.

Doesn't that break your heart? Maybe it was a good thing that Hub started this and not me. His heart is a lot tougher than mine I guess.
But by Day 2 Noelle was looking like this:

I guess all the candy she was getting for doing basically nothing started to seem like not such a bad idea after all....

This seems pretty hysterical from my perspective but I could just weep for you (unless candy is involved. If so, I'm fine.)

Dang..I really feel like boycotting this post. Good job Noelle (fake enthusiasm)!

No, really, I hope it works for you because then I'll feel even worse that my child is toilet-disabled.

See...Isaac and Olivia do have something in common. Pure, unadulterated disdain.

So much going on around there. Glad the derby was such a hit with the whole fam! Poor Noelle was all I could think! Sara will be horrified by the 1st picture so I'm glad you snapped another once she figured things out! Good luck with a week of potty training successes! Thanks for your note, it's good we can still keep in touch!

I love how noelle's shirt color coordinates with her potty seat. You are quite the mom! Now I know why I have all boys!

I think I'm deliberating between feeling excited for you and just hiding under a rock counting my blessings that all of my children are past those two main stages... at least most of the time ;)

If it makes you feel any better I was out shopping and found the CUTEST stinkin' dresses for Sydney and Noelle to wear next Christmas... you can consider them your baby gift - albeit a highly unusual baby gift... I'd worry about delivery but it looks like we have a few months left 'til the holidays :)

That does make me sad for Noelle and incredibly nervous about potty training Trey. Good Luck with that.
Sorry about the no sleep! Now I remember why I don't want another newborn

AAAAH! I'm glad you have plenty of candy to keep you going. What else is a mom to do??? I think that if Hub is going to introduce potty training, he needs to take the week off and finish the sentence. Seriously, if I had a newborn and was potty training I'd go insane. Nathan is trying to potty train Alexandra and I am fighting it pretty hard. Why should a 4-year-old decide that "we" are going to potty train the baby?

I had to laugh at Ike's picture! He looks like he just might catch something from that car!! LOL

I can't wait to see you back at aerobics. :) It'll help you relieve some of that 5-kid stress.

I was just missing the whole newborn baby thing until I read this. NO sleep plus no excercise = mental illness for me. I can't imagine throwing potty training into the mix.
Alright, even after all that I still love newborns! Syndney is a beauty.

I didn't know if you would get my response on your comment. Yeah, it is still so fun to play with sisters we atually get along better now than we did when we were young.

And yes, my parents had a tanning room but they got the bed after I graduated from High School so I never got to use it. :(

Oh wow. Dan needs to be potty trained and I've just been waiting until I don't feel so tired -- and you have a new baby and are tackling it. My hero! Even if it was rather forced on you. I hope she's a quick learner. I loved all the pictures of Sydney from last post and this one. We still have a cold so I still cant' come. Sigh.
