Yes friends, it is true. I just hate to miss out on anything (unless it's joining Facebook) and so I have finally finished the Twilight series. It only took me a year and a half. It wasn't because I was a slow reader, because I actually read each book quickly, it was rather that I felt no need to rush into the next one. I was pacing myself, people. Like a good marathon runner would. And like all good marathon runners (or so I'm assuming since I really hate to run) I now am done and feel quite the accomplishment. Except I didn't win a trophy or get a free t-shirt from the experience.
So now I am In the Know like most of the female population and feel qualified to offer my deep insights into the books. For the two of you out there who have no idea what I'm talking about I will excuse you from this post and ask you to return next time for when I get back to being deep in ways you appreciate.
Thought #1: After all the raving about it, the next time I am at a museum and nobody is looking I am going to find a marble statue and hug it and kiss it. Seriously. No matter how sparkly great looking Edward is does it really sound appealing to cuddle to something hard and cold?? But maybe my cynicism is because I've never DONE it. So I will reserve full judgement until I've tried it and hope I don't get arrested.
Thought #2: I was really annoyed initially that Boring Bella could somehow snag the two hottest non-humans in all of Washington. Then it hit me that I was just jealous. How come no vampires or werewolves were fighting over me? Then it hit me again. Bella is the hero for all of us plain Janes out there! If Bella could do it, then why couldn't I? Then it hit me again. I'm a freakin' 30- something-year-old married mom of 4 plus kids and I was having these teenage jealousy issues? I really better stop reading before I start hanging out at the high school looking for my own Edward.
Thought #3: I really want Stephenie Meyer's bank account.
There it is. I thought they were a fun read for pure escapism. I even enjoyed the movie. But here's my final thing----the last book gets a little too honeymoonish for me and I started getting a little embarrassed about all the people I knew who had read about all that kissy-kissy stuff! Like my brother! And the pre-teens I know! I can't look anyone in the eye anymore since we all were witnesses to such personal moments in Bella's life. The end.

AMEN! I feel like I am right there with you. I enjoyed the books and movie but that is it. I don't consider it a must read. And I would love stephenie Meyers bank account. Maybe she is in to giving loans to nice people who just said her books weren't as great as some people may think.
Are you really jealous of Bella or is it just annoying that she was so boring and uninteresting that it was in no way realistic at all that she get the sparkling white hottie? Are we all really as boring as Bella? Those are my feelings.
I think the books are fine and good, but what the middle-age obesession? Was is Sherie saying she knew all these women at Der's work party fighting over Edward paraphernalia? Weird guys, WEIRD.
does it count that your brother (as long as we're talking about the same one) didn't enjoy the honeymoonish crap either?
I'll come with you to that museum and play lookout ;)
I wouldn't let Anna read the last one. That one did it in for me--as in I don't like the series and the books shouldn't even AT ALL be compared IN ANY WAY to Harry Potter.
Still haven't read book four! Should I? I don't know . . .we don't live close and I doubt we will be looking into each other's eyes any time soon. Not that I wouldn't love to! (does that sound too "ewww"? I don't care)
It looks like I'm going to be the odd one when I say I loved the books. I've read them twice and I'm itching to read them again. I'm not a crazy fanatic though and I have nothing Twilight-ish except for the books.
so... if I can get Q on facebook there's more chance for you too right? (sorry, doubt it'll ever happen)
Book 3 is a must read if you've done 1 & 2... Book 4... well, just be prepared for the all time most ridiculous character name you've ever encountered and you'll survive. (disclaimer: not for kids - above advice is intended only for adults)
I have to say I really liked the first 3 books and have read them twice. I did struggle with the 4th book. Had a hard time picking it up actually and finishing it. The first 3 are a fun way to escape. I loved the movie and have seen it 3 times.... I also like the soundtrack (it was a gift). But I do not have any team Edward or team Jacob memorabilia.
I can still look you in the eye because I haven't got that far! I haven't even read the 2nd one yet. I'm still getting up the courage to ask someone or anyone if I can borrow it. I agree with you about the statue thing - I still haven't warmed up to the idea that he could be cuddly.
I'll keep with my high school fascination with David Archuletta, that's the only silly heart-throb I need! : )
Yeah, I totally agree with you, I think we all felt a little like giddy high school girls, maybe that was one reason it was so much fun. Glad you jumped on the Twilight craze! I didn't like the last book very much, either, I thought it got a little too personal, if you know what I mean. But I saw the movie twice and I want to see it again!
HaHa! Okay, I can't read all of your thoughts just yet because I joined the Twilight Cult just a little while ago and like you "I PACE MYSELF" and am not finished with the 1st book yet.
I like it so far but not nearly as much as some of the Edward Stalkers out there. Honestly, I don't get why women are so in love with him. Hmmm, maybe something magnificent happens towards the end of the book or in the next 3. I don't know.
But GOOD JOB!!!!!!! CONGRATULATIONS! And if I had a hard cold sparkly Edward trophy to give you, you would get one! ;)
Wow. I read this a few days ago and thought I'd commented already. I'm losing it. The funny thing is that I finished the third one (without having read one and two) the day I read this blog and I thought that I would not be picking the "person" with a cold hard chest, cold lips, and cold breath. Brrrrr. I'm not sure I'd pick a wolf either though. I think I'll stick with Derek and will not be going around drooling over the cold marble man.
